Originally published in the mid 1920s, this reproduction of an original vintage poster by Oscar Rabe Hanson for the Chicago Elevated Rail Lines features an ornate entryway typical of many University of Chicago campus buildings. A must-have for the UChicago instructor, student, or alumni!

 


One of a series of posters Hanson designed to promote travel on Chicago's Elevated Lines to educational and cultural institutions in the city.  The University of Chicago is located in the Southeast Side of the city, near the lakefront.

Our limited edition giclée poster reproductions were meticulously reproduced side by side with the original vintage poster, each giclée is authentic to its original in color, detail and character included in the original artwork.  Poster Plus limited edition giclées are printed on high quality acid free papers using archival inks.  
 
These original transit posters were printed in the mid 1920s and were 40 x 80" inches.  The scale of these posters was so large that it necessitated the creation of 2-part images to be printed on 2 sheets of paper and then be joined together when they were originally used as advertisements for the Elevated and other rail lines at different stations around Chicago and the surrounding areas.  Since each section of the image was originally drawn by hand by the artist, on separate plates, there are instances where portions of these images do not align perfectly.  This is the nature of these artworks and is not considered to be a flaw or defect.  That is exactly the way the posters were made and that is how we have revived the images in our collection of reproductions.
