Held in Chicago from 1933 through 1934, the World's Fair drew an estimated 48 million people.
"A Century of Progress" celebrated color and lighting, influenced by the great depression of the time. Rather than focusing on architecture, the fair focused on scientific and technological progress and the manufacturing processes behind them, hence the motto: "Science Finds, Genius Invents, Industry Applies, Man Adapts." This was the first fair in American history that paid for itself.
