Charles Medin, The Candle Dipper - Light of 1800, 1925

"Supplying Electricity or Gas to 165,000 Homes"

This beautiful poster features Medin's serene image of a woman making candles by hand - a profession known as a "chandler". The morning light illuminates her work and the clock, spinning wheel, and tub which surround her.
The poster advertised the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois, which serviced the western and northern parts of Illinois, providing electricity and gas power to communities. Originally owned and controlled by business magnate, Samuel Insull, it was later merged to become part of Commonwealth Edison in the 1930s.

Lithograph, 42 x 80 inches
