Eggleston, Ahoy There! - Great Lakes Exposition, 1937

This rare and stunning poster for Billy Rose's Aquacade features Edward Eggleston's illustration of the show's star Eleanor Holm in a red swimsuit, waving cheerfully from a rope ladder. In the distance, a sailboat and steamship pass by. "Great Lakes Exposition, 1937. All New and Greater. Cleveland, May 29 to Sept. 6. Travel By Train. Consult Ticket Agents. New York Central."

Billy Rose's Aquacade was a swimming, dance, and musical show created by American showman and impresario, Willam "Billy" Rose. It's stars were Olympic swimmers Eleanor Holm (who later married Rose) and Johnny Weismuller, best known for his movie portrayal of Tarzan. Holm was replaced in 1940 by Esther Williams, who later became one of MGM Studio's stars.
