This striking image for Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece opera Rigoletto - originally created by Arthur A. Johnson, circa 1924, promoted travel on the Chicago Elevated Lines to cultural institutions in the city. The Civic Opera House - built by Samuel Insull - opened on November 4, 1929 - six days after the Stock Market crash. It seats 3,563 people, which makes it the second-largest opera house in North America.

Our limited edition giclée poster reproductions were meticulously reproduced side by side with the original vintage poster, each giclée is authentic to its original in color, detail and character included in the original artwork.  Poster Plus limited edition giclées are printed on high quality acid free papers using archival inks.  
 
These original transit posters were printed in the mid 1920s and were 40 x 80" inches.  The scale of these posters was so large that it necessitated the creation of 2-part images to be printed on 2 sheets of paper and then be joined together when they were originally used as advertisements for the Elevated and other rail lines at different stations around Chicago and the surrounding areas.  Since each section of the image was originally drawn by hand by the artist, on separate plates, there are instances where portions of these images do not align perfectly.  This is the nature of these artworks and is not considered to be a flaw or defect.  That is exactly the way the posters were made and that is how we have revived the images in our collection of reproductions.
