Oscar Rabe Hanson, Electricity - Conqueror of Darkness, 1925

This striking poster, designed by Hanson, promoted the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois. It features a conquistador on horseback, carrying a banner of "Conquest" as two pirates as they carry away a treasure chest.

The company serviced the western and northern parts of Illinois, providing electricity and gas power to communities. Originally owned and controlled by business magnate, Samuel Insull, it was later merged to become part of Commonwealth Edison in the 1930s.
