THE CHICAGO TRANSIT POSTERS OF THE 1920S: During the 1920s four major electric railways operating in and around Chicago were owned by Samuel Insull and managed by Britton Budd. These visionaries used posters to celebrate the landmarks and cultural institutions of greater Chicago. The posters at the time were recognized throughout the world as significant in design and beauty. The rediscovery of originals, initially in 1975 and later in 2003 by David Gartler, founder of Poster Plus, led to a program of reprints to make these wonderful historic posters available to a wider audience.
In this section of our website are reproductions of original posters that were hung in tourism offices, railway stations, ticket agencies, and other locations suitable for advertising. Our posters include images from the Chicago Transit Authority, North Shore Line, the South Shore Line, Rapid Transit and Elevated Lines posters and are available in multiple formats as magnets, notecards, offset posters, and limited edition posters.
