Peerless Gloss Starch, ca. 1890

This an original poster for Peerless Gloss Starch, manufactured in Illinois. While the company's corn starch was used for cooking, its gloss starch was used to stabilize lace, linens and fine fabrics while giving them a silky sheen. The poster features a highly detailed and beautifully rendered portrait of a lady in a frilled bonnet and collar.
