A bold design with a paint brush and the phrase "... A Work of American Art In Every American Home..." and a proclamation that this was "American Art Week"

 

The Works Progress Administration, later renamed the Work Projects Administration, was created under President Roosevelt’s New Deal. This national program created jobs for millions of unemployed men and women to carry out public projects including building construction, arts, media and literacy projects, food and clothing distribution, and housing. Beautifully designed posters were used to create public awareness of the WPA-funded programs, activities, and performances.
